Why did you choose to volunteer at CCIA?

I knew of the organisation through a friend who was volunteering at CCIA about seven years ago. She enjoyed volunteering here and felt happy. Now my friend is supporting CCIA financially as a donor. She gave me the details of the organisation when I came back to Australia from overseas, as she knew I wanted to volunteer my time for a worthy cause. I also felt more confident volunteering my time to CCIA because I knew the background of the organisation through my friend.

What work do you do at CCIA?

Mainly office work such as data entry, filing and sending letters to our donors and supporters, and I’m happy to help in this way. Processing data in the system is giving me the opportunity to improve my computer skills. It is great that I can assist CCIA and at the same time I am also learning from it, by improving my English and office administration skills. I feel it is a win-win for both of us.

Can you describe your relationship with the other volunteer and staff at CCIA?

CCIA is a very interesting organisation because the staff and volunteers come from very different backgrounds age ranges. They all have a special story. I like to learn about different languages and cultures, and exchange information with them. This is what makes CCIA special. I also like to come here because I feel comfortable and have many friends.

How long have you been volunteering at CCIA?

I have volunteered for the past two years, and come once a week for about five hours. I love and enjoy volunteering for CCIA.
