Head of Theme
Overview
The Therapeutic Discovery Theme is focused on new and innovative approaches to the treatment of childhood cancer. This includes developing new therapeutic agents such as small molecule drugs, monoclonal antibodies and cell-based and gene-based therapies that are designed to target the specific vulnerabilities of cancer cells, rather than indiscriminately kill all rapidly dividing cells. It also includes the development of new drug delivery methods to enhance the efficacy and reduce the toxicity of treatments.
Research aims
Our broad aims are to identify therapeutic targets specific to childhood cancers, develop and test therapeutic agents against these targets, and investigate new methods of drug delivery.
Approaches
We are a multidisciplinary team applying expertise in a wide range of areas, including computational biology, drug chemistry, preclinical modelling of childhood cancer, genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, CRISPR, 3D printing, and nanotheranostics.
