Lucy's Light

Lucy is one of a kind...so is her cancer.

We are the Galvin family and we are on a mission to end childhood cancer.
Since our world turned upside down in March 2022, we have been hugely commited to raising funds to help change the future for kids with cancer, in honour of our daughter Lucy.
Through your incredible support we have already raised almost $200,000 and we are not stopping until all childhood cancers are gone for good...but we need your help!

The Zero Childhood Cancer Program is changing the model of care for children in Australia, children like Lucy.
$25,000 could cover all the costs of testing for one child enrolled on to Zero.

Help us on our mission by donating today!
Every dollar raised will go on to help save the lives of children with cancer.

Together we will cure all children of cancer. It's not if, it's when.

Lucy's Story

Lucy Galvin was just 3 years old when her mum, Sarah, noticed an unusual lump on her daughter's ribcage. It was a moment that changed the course of their lives forever.

Within days, Lucy was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive type of childhood cancer, and given 30% chance of cure. "The words hit us like a bullet, shattering us into a million pieces." - Sarah, Lucy's mum.

Because of Lucy's poor prognosis, she was eligible for the Zero Childhood Cancer Program (known as 'ZERO'), which is a personalised medicine program for children in Australia.

While her biopsy was being analysed by the ZERO team, Lucy commenced 2 years of gruelling treatment, which included five of the harshest chemotherapy drugs available. As Lucy's little body struggled to survive the aggressive chemo, she was repeatedly hospitalised due to dangerous side effects.

The long road ahead...

Despite these horrors, Lucy's scans showed that her cancer was responding extremely well to treatment. Her tumour was shrinking and the cancer cells in her lungs were gone. Incredibly, Lucy was defying the odds that were stacked so heavily against her.
However she still had a long road ahead of her...

A few months into treatment, ZERO researchers were able to identify a drug that could target one of Lucy’s cancer genes. Due to their findings, they were able to include this medicine as part of Lucy’s maintenance protocol, with the hope that it will prevent her from relapsing. After almost 2 years of chemotherapy, Lucy achieved remission in October 2023 and rang the end of treatment bell!

They need our help.
We need yours.

Although chemo has finished, Lucy's journey is far from over. She is still being monitored closely for relapse and continues to suffer with serious side-effects from her treatment.

"If a child you love is diagnosed with cancer, you will need the research that is happening right now. Please give urgently to this life saving work. Children need research and the researchers need you." - Sarah, Lucy's mum.

This is why the Galvin family and their incredible friends and family continue to do all that they can to make sure no other family goes through what they endured, but we need your support.
