A life
should
be long.

This International Childhood Cancer
Awareness Month, donate today and
help us cure every child of cancer.

Every child should get the chance to grow up and grow old. To plan exciting futures, chase their dreams, and live a life that is full of possibilities.

But cancer cuts life short for hundreds of children every year. In Australia alone, every week, three young lives will be lost to the disease.

For 40 years, Children’s Cancer Institute has been conducting research into the causes, prevention and cure of childhood cancer. We’ve made great progress, but we won’t stop until every child can live a long, happy and healthy life.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month support the research that will one day cure every child of cancer.

A life should be long.

Did you know we were founded by two dads of children with leukaemia?

At that time, there was no research being done for childhood cancer. Jack Kasses and John Lough said “we really need to do something to help these doctors help our children.”

Find out how these two extraordinary people were able to raise the funds to open our first laboratory in 1984 by watching the video.

“We want to cure cancer. We want to be a part of that. We can’t save Lola, but we just want to be able to help in some way, in her memory.”

- Naomi, Lola's mum

In June, results from almost 400 children with high-risk cancer to go through the Zero Childhood Cancer Program (ZERO) were published in the leading journal, Nature Medicine, showing that the precision medicine approach taken by ZERO is significantly improving outcomes for these children.

Since 2017, almost 2000 children have been enrolled on ZERO. At the end of 2023, the Program expanded to become available to all Australians aged 0 to 18, regardless of their type of cancer or the risk level. This is the first time that precision medicine has been available to every child diagnosed with cancer, not just in Australia, but in any country in the world and we are excited to see the impact this has on survival rates over the coming years.
