Dr Daniel Carter is a post-doctoral researcher who focuses on neuroblastoma. His research is part of the Molecular Carcinogenesis program, led by Professor Glenn Marshall at Children’s Cancer Institute.
Neuroblastoma is the most common solid cancer in infants. Amplification of the MYCN gene locus is a frequent genetic aberration in the disease and is associated with poor patient outcome and treatment resistance. MYCN, part of the MYC family of oncogenes, is a little-understood transcription factor with many biological functions. Dr Carter is working on the development of new and innovative targeted therapeutics for MYCN.
Key areas of Dr Carter’s work involve in vivo modelling of neuroblastoma to determine the mechanisms of MYCN-driven neuroblastoma tumorigenesis, and development of targeted therapies.
