My dedication for Grandpa

My grandpa passed away from liver cancer 5 years ago. We were here in Melbourne while he was battling against cancer with only grandma by his side in Taiwan. We booked the earliest flight back when his situation worsened but he passed away before we could get back. It will always be my biggest regret that we weren't there with him while he was enduring all these hardships alone. I don't want anyone having to go through what I did so I hope that the little effort I put in with this event, will be able to contribute to the breakthrough of cancer research. To all the little ones battling against cancer now, you're all valiant warriors. Keep fighting with all your heart, and know that you are never alone!

Our little granddaughter is going through something no child should have to endure. A journey no family should ever have to take, but one that far too many families do. It is impossible to describe the heartbreak, the pain and fear that comes with a cancer diagnosis like this. The uncertainty that shadowed our days. Watching our little one deal with this. This time has been difficult to navigate and talk about as it’s so close to our hearts. We dedicate our walk to our darling Ellie and all of the other children who are on this journey. We wish all of our young warriors health and happiness xxx

Having your health is great, but when you don't, a group of people who care can make you feel a lot better. This is what our wonderful team ❤️👏💙 are doing. Out of pain, certain special qualities are born. Understanding, perseverance, sensitivity, empathy are invisible - yet, like any hidden treasure, invaluable...very often, times of pain become times when we get in touch with our soul, perhaps as never before. This is our time to do so.

My dedication for Hugh

My son Hugh was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2022 and underwent major lifesaving surgery to remove as much of the cancer as possible. This left him permanently disabled and he had to relearn to walk, talk, eat and write again. While his recovery has been on-going and long, he has continued to show unwavering determination to get back to living as normal as possible. I'm dedicating this challenge not only to my sons brain cancer battle, but to all children and their families dealing with and living in the shadow of cancer. I hope for the day we can have safe and effective treatments for children with brain cancer, which improves their chance for survival and reduces the likelihood of permanent disability.

My dedication for Luca

I’m dedicating my 86km challenge to someone special to find a cure for childhood cancer. Our son was diagnosed with high risk neuroblastoma in April 2022. He was given a 5-year survival rate of 1 in 2. After 16m of gruelling treatment including five rounds of induction chemotherapy, a 6.5hr tumour resection of the primary tumour, two rounds of high dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplants, 12 fractions of radiotherapy and six rounds of immunotherapy, he remains cancer-free almost a year and a half post treatment. We never take any day for granted anymore and one thing is for certain- without childhood cancer research, he wouldn’t be here with us today. Not a day goes by we don’t think of the children and families we met on this journey who have been affected by childhood cancer including those who are forever in the stars. We will always have a passion and dedication to CCI as they are the only institute in Australia dedicated to childhood cancer research.
