Distance For Dante
My son Dante was diagnosed with Hepatoblastoma when he was just 5 months old. This is a very rare paediatric cancer which effects 1 in 1.5 million children globally.
Dante is 1 in 1.5 million who will battle an extremely rare childhood cancer which causes a mass to grow on your liver
Dante has undergone a total of 8 cycles of chemotherapy, 10+ hour surgery, multiple blood transfusions, countless fevers and hospital admissions, infections, and emergency surgeries in this journey alone. This is where my passion lays in hope to put the suffering of children to an end.
To honour Danteās bravery, and the bravery of many other children, I hope to raise awareness and funding to make sure better treatment options and research are available in the years to come.
Awareness and financial support is detrimental to the future of modernised and lower toxic treatment, ongoing research and so much more.
I have registered for two events listed below. I will be looking at participating in a third fundraiser throughout the year and I am open to recommendations for this if anyone has any ideas/fundraisers close to their heart. All proceeds from these events will be donated to the Children's Cancer Institute.
1. "86K for a Cure" to aid in the search for a cure for childhood cancer. https://www.ccia.org.au/about-childhood-cancer
Every month, 86 children are diagnosed with this disease, and treatment can be lengthy and troublesome for families.
To raise awareness and funds, I will be undertaking a run of 86km throughout the month of March, one kilometre for each child diagnosed each month.
With your support and donations, we can work towards finding a cure and improving treatments for children with cancer. Click here to donate and help me support my challenge to change the lives of children with cancer.
2. Melbourne Marathon - Sunday 15 October 2023 - https://melbournemarathon.com.au/marathon/#
Australia's largest running event.
60 years ago, a diagnosis of childhood cancer was almost always fatal.
Today, however, the survival rate has improved dramatically - 8 out of 10 children will survive their cancer. But the fight is far from over.
Medical research is the key to finding a cure for all children affected by cancer. Despite some progress, in Australia, statistically three children still die from cancer every week. This highlights the need for continued research efforts.
Fortunately, we have the resources, the talent, and the drive to make a real difference.
