Distance for Dante
I will be taking part in three events throughout the year, the details of which are listed below. All proceeds from these events will be donated to the Children's Cancer Institute.
1. "86K for a Cure" to aid in the search for a cure for childhood cancer. https://www.ccia.org.au/about-childhood-cancer
Every month, 86 children are diagnosed with this disease, and treatment can be lengthy and troublesome for families.
To raise awareness and funds, I will be undertaking a run of 86km throughout the month of March, one kilometre for each child diagnosed each month.
With your support and donations, we can work towards finding a cure and improving treatments for children with cancer. Click here to donate and help me support my challenge to change the lives of children with cancer.
2. Townsville to Cairns Thursday 27 - 29 July 2023 - https://www.tcbr.org.au/the-event/the-course
Townsville to Cairns consists of a 352km bike ride split across 3 days.
Day 1 = 112km, Day 2 = 152km, Day 3 = 88km
Each year in Australia, more than 1,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer.
This equates to 20 new cases each week. Tragically, an average of three children and adolescents die from cancer each week.
The Children’s Cancer Institute is determined to put an end to childhood cancer and develop safer treatments for children through medical research.
With the support of people like you, who raise vital funds for our research, we are confident that we can and will find a cure for childhood cancer. It's not a question of if, but when.
3. Melbourne Marathon - Sunday 15 October 2023 - https://melbournemarathon.com.au/marathon/#
Australia's largest running event.
60 years ago, a diagnosis of childhood cancer was almost always fatal.
Today, however, the survival rate has improved dramatically - 8 out of 10 children will survive their cancer. But the fight is far from over.
Medical research is the key to finding a cure for all children affected by cancer. Despite some progress, in Australia, statistically three children still die from cancer every week. This
highlights the need for continued research efforts.
Fortunately, we have the resources, the talent, and the drive to make a real difference.
The Children’s Cancer Institute is Australia's only independent medical research institute solely focused on finding a cure for childhood cancer and developing safer treatments for
children.
Well done boys x
