I'm fundraising for a great cause!
My Updates
Taper Time
Tuesday 13th JulSo now that I’m into the official taper phase of my training I thought I would share some “Great Northern Mongrel” interesting facts.
Mongrel
noun
- a dog of no definable type or breed
Great Northern
noun
- the beer Bowndog and Badge was drinking when coming up with event name.
Total Distance - of the Great Northern Mongrel – 452 Km
Time to complete GNM – Fingers crossed less than 30 hrs
Best sayings heard while training
1. “I did it because I didn’t think I could” – Roy Matthews after doing 10 consecutive park runs.
2. “I will not do a turn on the front as I will only get in your way” – Bec Woods on a bunch ride.
3. “It will not matter too much if we go off course a bit on the swim” – Badge my paddler reviewing his effort on holding a straight course on Strava, my reply… “WTF”
Longest training ride – 300.22 Km
Longest training swim – 6.005 Km
Longest training run – 35.53 Km
Lowest moment – 5am on a freezing ride out to Woodstock at start of 300km training ride.
Most inspirational moment - 5am on freezing ride out to Woodstock at start of 300km training ride, but doing with a bunch of mates who wanted to support me.
Most appreciative moment – Hot spuds at the top of Castle Hill from Pete.
Funniest moment – Bowen trail run creek crossing, the last step was a doozy for short people.
Most exhilarating moment – duelling with Wayne on bike at +53km/h after already riding 170km.
Most humbling moment – My Son’s mates being among the first to donate to my cause.
Biggest light bulb moment – Realising that when you tell your friends what you’re going to do, and they say “you got this” or “good on you” or “you will be amazing” you are still in your comfort zone. When they say “you are crazy” or “that’s insane” or “I don’t think you should” then you know you’re not only out of your comfort zone but way out of theirs. That’s where the magic happens 😊
Most anticipated moment – Me doing this adventure and it motivates even one of my friends to dream bigger and achieve something they never believed possible.
Browndog’s right ankle - has calcinated and nearly fully fused, has no meniscus in ankle joint and less than 10% flexibility. Running hurts and running uphill hurts a lot.
Dave Wharton - from Townsville Pain and Injury Clinic has been magnificent in keeping my body aligned and it top form to cope with the training demands I have been subjecting it to. Highly recommend him to keep you performing at your best.
Why Children’s Cancer – I have Been reasonably blessed with very little illness or disease in my family. The one thing that rips me apart is sick children and the distress suffered by their loved ones. Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to live life how they choose. Many children, through no fault of their own, with cancer will never get that opportunity to do crazy stuff like I do.
So please donate so they can … “Live Life, Love Life”… Browndog
